Financing your business is one of the major concerns of every business owner. Many businesses don’t last longer than five years due to finance.
Many business ideas are dead on arrival because of a lack of funds. So how do you finance your business even when you have no source of income?
Business grants have proven to be one of the easiest ways to finance your business or take your business ideas to reality. Although grants are very competitive because you do not have to repay them.
Many entrepreneurs that apply for grants barely get it. If you don’t get the basics of the application correctly, you will fail.

- Be clear on your business goals. You can’t get a business grant when your business goals are not clear or highly comprehensible. Here are a few tips on what to include in your business grant; show how your business will tackle unemployment. State how it will improve the economy. Your business ideas should embrace innovation.
- Having a business plan is important. Your business plan should include The Executive Summary, Your Company Description, Your Service, Your Marketing, and Sales.
- Proper documentation will do the magic. Put together your proof of paying taxes for at least 3 years, sales invoices, and other incurred expenses.
- Carry out proper research on federal government grant opportunities. Do not spend your time chasing shadows. Carry out enough research before applying.
- Check out local and state grant opportunities. Do not miss out on business grants around you while chasing bigger ones. There are some local and state grants within you. Research and apply.
- Understand the grant you are applying for. This will help to meet their specific demands. Many entrepreneurs look for grants, ignoring the basic requirements. They end up wasting their time and resources. They could have avoided this.
- Find other people that have gotten grants in the past. Experience is the best teacher. They can easily put you on the right track.
- Use a professional grant writer. Use a professional that understands the format of writing grants. Don’t be penny-wise and pound-foolish.
- Get some experts to review your grants. Getting a grant is a big deal. Get at least two experts to review your grant proposal before submitting it. Two good heads are always better than one.
- Find out the deadline before submitting your grant proposal. It is advisable to create a deadline calendar. Stick to your deadline. You do not want to submit it late. That is a red flag already.
